When I hear about someone or any of my peers getting suspended i get pretty upset about it. For those of you who don’t know what a suspension is, it is a punishment for a student. There is two kinds of suspensions, one is an inschool suspension where you sit in the same room and do absolutely nothing all day or an out of school suspension where you’re not allowed to come to school for that day. It may sound stupid but I truly believe suspensions do absolutely nothing to the kid being suspended. I personally have been suspended before so I know what I’m talking about to a certain extent.
There is problems with both in-school and out of school suspensions.
With in-schools, you either sit in the room and do nothing or do work you were supposed to do in your classes you’re being forced to miss. The problem with that is you don’t even hear the lesson on the work before hand and usually have no clue what you’re doing and you can’t say a word to ask for help. Thats a problem. Let’s say someone got suspended for skipping class which happens weekly and recently happened to one of my friends. Basically the punishment for missing school is not being able to go to school, or you have to go to school and still miss class. How does that make sense? That’s like punishing a drug addict by giving him/her more drugs.
Now, don’t get me wrong, we kids still need to be punished for whatever we did wrong but if anything i’d say you punish them by making them go to class or assigning extra work or more community hours or something that is genuinely helping the kid instead of putting them in a chair for over 6 hours, or kicking them out of school which would only make things worse because the kid has complete freedom and nothing is in his/her way to do exactly what they got suspended for, again.
In conclusion, every person i have talked to has not benefited from any suspension they may have received. This goes to show that educational punishments could be improved rather than using suspensions.
