Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and the second smallest planet in the Solar System, after Mercury. it is 227,900,000 km from the sun. And we found water on it! The fact that there is potential water on another planet completely changes everything we thought of Mars. When i think of Mars i think of the red, hot, dry planet it looks to be, but it seems I'm mistaken.
Jim Green, director of planetary science for NASA. “Under certain circumstances, liquid water has been found on Mars.” What does this mean? is life sustainable on mars? is there life there already? i’ve done my research and found some very interesting things.
When they say they’ve found “water” on mars they’re not talking about an inground pool or a lake. The water on mars is different. The water is like these dark, narrow, 100 m long streaks called recurring slope lineae flowing downhill on mars. It isn’t very nutritious or delicious to eat, but it is still water!
Because liquid water is essential to life, the findings could boost the odds of life on Mars. The researchers said in the Nature Geo-science journal that further exploration is to determine whether microscopic life exists on the planet. When hearing this i had to find out if we were ever going to be visiting Mars in the future. I found out NASA is coming up with plans to send humans to the moon in 2030. That means i may be able to see this trip in my own lifetime (knock on wood). I missed the landing on the moon. I wish I was alive to see, I've watched it countless times on Youtube but I'd like to see a space mission live, so if i get to see this Mars landing it would really be a sight to see!
This discovery will trigger tons of hype and I am willing to bet NASA will follow up this discovery with something big! What do you think?
